Streaming device company Roku has raised another $60 million in funding.


In the competitive connected device space, Roku stands out as one of the most viable competitors to Apple TV and consoles such as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.


The company primarily makes connected devices, such as the new Roku 3 and also works with OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) to create Roku Ready devices that can accept a Roku Streaming Stick.


It appears that Roku wants to succeed in an area where other early device makers — such as TiVo — failed: Partnerships. Much as service providers such as Netflix and Amazon have extended their brand by licensing to other providers, Roku wants to become ubiquitous as the interface and technology that powers the connected TV experience.
